When am I charged?

Shopify bills on a 30-day recurring cycle starting from the day you subscribe. Your first charge is immediate; all subsequent charges appear on the same day each month on your Shopify invoice.

Will I get a refund if I cancel mid-cycle?

Accepted Answer

Cancelling is immediate — paid features are removed right away, and Shopify issues a prorated credit for the unused portion of your current billing cycle.

Is there a free trial?

The Free plan is permanent — no credit card required. It gives you access to core features with up to 25 media items and 25 SEO items so you can evaluate the app before committing to a paid plan.

Are there any setup or hidden fees?

No. You pay only the monthly plan price shown — $6.99/month for Starter or $14.99/month for Pro. There are no setup fees, usage fees, or hidden charges.

Can I cancel or downgrade anytime?

Yes. Downgrade to Free at any time from the Billing page in your Shopify admin. The cancellation is immediate — paid features are removed right away. All your data (alt tags, templates, media records, activity history) is preserved, so you can upgrade again without losing anything.

Can I switch between Starter and Pro?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Switching plans is instant — your new limits and features activate immediately. Shopify will prorate the billing difference for the remaining days in your current cycle.

What happens to my templates if I downgrade from Pro to Starter?

Accepted Answer

Starter allows up to 5 templates. If you have more than 5, the oldest templates beyond the limit are hidden (not deleted). They become visible again the moment you upgrade back to Pro.

What happens to my media records if I downgrade?

Accepted Answer

All media records are kept in the database. On lower-tier plans, records beyond your plan's limit are shown in the Media Library but their alt text fields become read-only. Upgrade to edit them again.

What counts as a 'media item'?

Each image or video indexed from your store counts as one media item — including product images, collection images, content files, and blog article images. Scanning indexes them all; your plan limit controls how many you can actively edit.

What is the AI Generator and do I need my own API key?

Accepted Answer

The AI Generator uses your own API key from a provider you choose (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Groq, or Kimi) to automatically write SEO-friendly alt text for your product images. You bring the key — it's encrypted at rest and never exposed to the browser. This feature requires the Pro plan and is temporarily paused while we roll out an improvement — manual editing and templates work as normal in the meantime.

How do I review AI-generated alt text before it's applied?

Once the AI Generator is back, you'll generate it inline from the ✦ icon next to any alt text field in the Media Library — the suggestion fills the field immediately so you can edit it before saving, the same as any other change.

How do I apply a template to every matching item at once?

Accepted Answer

Click "Apply to All" on any saved template in the Templates page — it applies that template's pattern to every matching product image in your store in one click, in the background, with a live progress bar. Available on every plan, up to your plan's media item limit.

What is Scheduled Auto-Rescan?

You can configure Altify to automatically rescan your media library on a weekly or daily schedule. When you next visit the dashboard after the interval has elapsed, the rescan kicks off in the background — no manual action needed. Set your schedule in Settings. Available on Starter and Pro plans.

What are Multi-Language Alt Tags?

On the Pro plan you can choose up to 3 target languages in Settings, then enter translated alt text per language for any image in the Translations tab. Translations are stored in Altify's database and pushed to Shopify metafields (namespace: altify, key: alt_[locale]) so they can be read by any Shopify-compatible translation app or theme. Automatic AI translation is temporarily paused — manual entry works as normal.

What is the Accessibility Audit and which plan includes it?

The Accessibility Audit crawls your live storefront and runs WCAG 2.1 compliance checks using axe-core — detecting missing alt tags, empty buttons, keyboard navigation issues, contrast failures, heading structure problems, landmark regions, mobile menu and carousel accessibility, and more (60+ checks across 6 categories: images, forms, navigation, structure, keyboard, media). It also includes a live site page scanner, an overall accessibility score, and AI-powered fix suggestions. This feature is Pro plan only.

Is CSV Import & Export included in Starter?

No — CSV Import & Export is a Pro feature. On Free and Starter you can still update alt tags inline in the Media Library or via Templates. Upgrade to Pro to export all media data as CSV and bulk-import alt text changes.
