Feature guide

Media Library

The library is the source of truth for every image and video in your store — filter by missing alt, needs review, quality score, or duplicate alt text at the top of the list.

AI Generator (coming back soon)

Click the ✦ icon next to any alt text field to generate a suggestion from the actual image, using your own API key from the provider you've configured in Settings. Requires the Pro plan; temporarily paused while we roll out an improvement.

SEO Meta Editor

Edit page titles and meta descriptions per resource type — products, collections, pages — individually or in bulk, with character-count guidance.

Templates

Write a pattern once using variables like {{product.title}} or {{variant.title}}, then apply it to specific products or your whole store with a live progress bar.

Accessibility Audit

Runs a real WCAG 2.1 scan of your live storefront with axe-core — 60+ checks across 6 categories (images, forms, navigation, structure, keyboard, media) — with AI-powered fix guidance and exportable reports.

Auto-rescan

Configure Code Magic: Altify AI to automatically rescan your media library on a weekly or daily schedule so new uploads get indexed without manual work.

Pro tips

Rescan after changes

Run a new scan any time you add products or upload new media — the library doesn't update automatically.

Use the Missing Alt filter

In the Media Library, filter by 'Missing Alt' to focus only on images that need attention and skip everything else.

Consistent template formula

A template like '{{product.title}} — {{variant.title}} by {{product.vendor}}' gives every image a unique, keyword-rich alt tag automatically.

CSV is fastest for bulk updates

Export → fill in Excel → Import is the fastest way to update hundreds of alt tags in one shot, especially for initial store setup.

Write naturally

Describe image content as if to someone who can't see it. 'Red leather handbag with gold clasp' beats 'product image 1' every time.

Avoid keyword stuffing

Don't repeat the same keyword five times. Search engines penalise stuffed alt tags — natural, descriptive language ranks better.

Include variant details

Use {{variant.option1}} in templates to capture colour or size. 'Nike Air Max — Black / Size 10' is more useful than just the product title.

Track duplicate alt tags

Use the 'Duplicate Alt' filter in Media Library to find identical alt tags across different images — duplicates dilute SEO impact.

Vision AI reads your images

When using a vision model (GPT-4o, Gemini, Claude), the AI actually looks at the image — no product title needed for accurate alt text.

Save often in Media Library

The sticky save bar shows unsaved changes count. Save frequently so you don't lose edits if the session times out.

Troubleshooting

The AI generate icon is greyed out

The AI Generator is temporarily paused while we roll out an improvement, so the icon is disabled for everyone right now — it isn't specific to your plan or API key. It'll come back automatically; no action needed on your end.

An alt tag I saved isn't showing in Shopify

Shopify can take a few minutes to reflect changes in the admin UI. If no error was shown, wait 2–3 minutes and refresh Shopify's media editor.

The scan seems stuck or shows no progress

Reload the Media Library page. If the scan is still showing as running after 10+ minutes, try starting a new scan — very large stores may just take longer.

Why are Content → Files or blog images not showing?

Make sure the app has read_files and read_content permissions (you'll be prompted on next login after a scope update), then run a full rescan.

A feature is locked behind an upgrade prompt

That feature isn't included on your current plan — the prompt tells you exactly which plan unlocks it. Upgrade from the Billing page whenever you're ready.

Glossary

Media item

Any image or video indexed from your store — product images, collection images, content files, or blog article images.

Alt tag / alt text

The alternative text describing an image, used by screen readers and search engines.

Quality score

Code Magic: Altify AI's assessment of how descriptive and SEO-appropriate a given alt tag is.

Template

A reusable alt-text pattern built from variables like product title, vendor, and variant.

Needs review

An accessibility finding axe-core couldn't fully confirm automatically — worth a manual look, but not a confirmed violation.

Violation

A confirmed WCAG 2.1 accessibility issue found during an audit, with a specific fix recommendation.

Auto-rescan

A scheduled background scan that keeps the media library current without manual action.

Plan gate

A feature locked behind a specific plan tier, shown with a clear upgrade prompt rather than a dead end.
